Cybersecurity doesn’t have to be complicated. These five quick wins can drastically reduce your risk — no tech skills required.

1. Use Strong, Unique Passwords Reusing the same password is risky, once it’s been compromised an attacker will be able to access any account with the same one. Never use peoples names, dates or anything personal. The best password is a completely random mix of words, numbers and special characters (!,? ect..). A password manager (like NordPass) creates and stores strong passwords for every account — no need to remember them all.

2. Turn On Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) These days even strong unique passwords are only a the tip of the iceberg, 2FA adds a second layer of protection by sending a pass-code or phrase to your phone. If someone gets your password, they still can’t log in without the one time passcode

3. Train Your Team to Spot Phishing Most breaches start with a fake email, text or even phone-call. Teach your staff to spot warning signs: Misspellings or strange grammar Urgent requests for money or logins Suspicious links or attachments. these are only three of the many examples of things to look out for, tailored training to help you spot the signs of phishing is the best way to ensure you and your team can know exactly which links are okay to open.

4. Keep Software Updated Outdated apps can be exploited by attackers, especially after a vulnerability has been found and published. after a system releases an update, especially ones designed to fix bugs and vulnerabilities, threat actors will target users who don’t yet have the update installed as it’s an easier target for them. Turn on automatic updates on all devices so you don’t have to feel like an electronic sitting duck

5. Back Up Your Data Important data (payment details, customer personal info ect…) is the main thing an attacker is after, they will try and steal this info for many reasons, such as to sell on, use to impersonate you and in the worst case (depending on the details stolen) take your money. Ransomware attacks can lock you out and encrypt your data whilst demanding a ransom amount (usually in crypto like bitcoin or more recently monero). Protect your business by backing up your data to: A secure cloud service An encrypted external drive

this way should the worst happen, you’re covered.

Cyber threats don’t wait — but protecting your business can start today. By taking just a few simple steps, you can reduce risk, boost confidence, and stay ahead. Small actions now can prevent big problems later.
